The city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna is accessible and offers a wide variety of holiday activities for people with reduced mobility. There are establishments and public and private spaces that allow them to enjoy the same possibilities as other tourists.

The Insular Society for the Promotion of Persons with Disabilities (SINPROMI), through its website, as well as the page www.tenerife-accesible.org, offers the opportunity to consult the accessibility conditions of the different facilities on the island. The analysis of each facility is broken down into pedestrian routes, transport infrastructure, access, lifts, building interiors, public toilets, accommodation, sports areas, leisure areas, meeting areas and restaurants. Establishments with adapted facilities are highlighted in green; those that are accessible with assistance are highlighted in yellow; and those that are inaccessible are highlighted in red. FEELING MY CITY

The Social Welfare and Tourism departments of La Laguna City Council have launched a programme of accessible guided tourist routes that aim to bring the municipality’s historical, artistic and cultural heritage closer to people with disabilities. The project, called Sintiendo mi ciudad (Feeling my city), was designed in collaboration with the Canary Islands Coordinator for People with Physical Disabilities (CoordiCanarias) and the official La Laguna tourist guide service. barrier-free routes, interpreter guides for deafblind people, sign language interpreters, Easy Reading material adapted for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, as well as adapted transport and an accompanying and care service for participants.

The main objective is to enable everyone, regardless of their abilities, to enjoy all the possibilities the city has to offer, as well as to promote the participation of people with disabilities in society, through tourism and culture, and to improve the accessibility of the destination and its tourist resources. In fact, the initiative stems from the municipal Disability Plan, which already includes promoting joint work between the areas of Social Welfare and Tourism.

The project consists of six one-hour guided tours. All are free of charge and will be conducted in small groups to ensure that participants can fully engage and enjoy the experience.

La Laguna Inclusive

The Social Welfare Department of La Laguna has produced the La Laguna Inclusive Guide, which aims to provide people with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities with comprehensive, up-to-date information on the accessibility of the city’s cultural and tourist resources. To this end, intensive work has been carried out to update all the data on accommodation, tourist, commercial, cultural and heritage resources, nature reserves and bathing areas with accessible natural pools, among others, which, thanks to the facilities and services they offer, are accessible to all.

The Social Welfare Department of La Laguna, in order to ensure that everyone can fully enjoy the city, provides the content of the Inclusive La Laguna Guide in accessible formats (audio guides with audio description for people with visual impairments and sign language guides and subtitles for deaf people covering the different heritage and cultural resources of La Laguna, maps with itineraries accessible to people with reduced mobility, easy-to-read texts, etc.).
