Fiestas del Carmen

Nuestra Señora del Carmen, the patron saint of the sea and fishermen, is known as “the star of the seas”. Her day is 16 July and is celebrated on seaside villages.

In Punta del Hidalgo the festival is divided in two parts: a procession on land and a sea procession. The former is held on the 16th, when the locals carry the statue from Capilla del Carmen located in the area of El Tagoro to Hoya de Arriba. Many residents decorate the way with flowers and plants they bring out of their own homes, small flags and balloons. On the other hand, the sea procession depends on the tide, but it is always held on Sunday.
