San Isidro is celebrated on 15 May and, due to his profession as a farmer, he is considered the patron saint of farmers and is venerated in many villages with processions in which the fields are blessed. In the municipality, this celebration takes the form of a pilgrimage. It is a representation of the Guanche be\u00f1esmen that was performed to give thanks for the harvest. Among the places where it is celebrated are El Pico, Valle de Guerra, Las Mercedes and Guamasa. <\/p>\n
In June, various pilgrimages are also held in honour of Saint John. In Punta del Hidalgo, he is popularly known as San Juanito. On the 23rd, Mass is celebrated, followed by a pilgrimage procession from the Church of San Mateo to his chapel on the coast. A musical parade enlivens the walk, which gives way at night to the burning of bonfires where corn cobs are roasted. In September, the patron saint’s festival takes place in honour of Saint Matthew the Apostle in Punta del Hidalgo. Religious ceremonies are mixed with popular celebrations.
