Since its foundation at the end of the 15th century as the political, religious and administrative capital of the island, it has been the starting point for all the island&#8217;s historical routes. The location of its historic centre, next to the main transhumance routes that predate the conquest, on a plain surrounded by mountains, makes it the starting point and meeting place for the traditional routes of the north and south of the island.
